PUTRAJAYA: The country’s cumulative number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,156,678 after 13,754 new infections were recorded yesterday, including four imported cases.
Selangor had the highest number of infections at 1,985 cases, followed by Johor with 1,913 cases.
For the seventh day in a row, the number of recoveries surpassed new cases, with 16,628 Covid-19 patients discharged.
This brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 1,933,716.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, 12,491 or 90.8% were Malaysians while 1,259 (9.2%) were foreigners.
In other states, the number of new infections were as follows: Sarawak (1,766), Sabah (1,629), Kelantan (1,264), Penang (1,052), Pahang (869), Perak (844), Kedah (783), Terengganu (664), Kuala Lumpur (383), Melaka (292), Negri Sembilan (175), Perlis (113), Putrajaya (14) and Labuan (eight).
Of the local cases reported, 13,521 cases (98.3%) were in Categories 1 and 2, while 233 cases (1.7%) were in Categories 3 to 5.
The Health Ministry identified 15 new clusters, taking the active number to 1,268.
Dr Noor Hisham also said out of the 141 workers of the Jalan 1/9C cluster in the Bangi industrial area tested, 70 were positive. They are from Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Gombak, Sepang and Petaling districts.
Additionally, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country continues to decrease, with the latest number at 201,274, a reduction of 5,199 cases from the previous day.
Of the total active cases, 168,258 or 83.6% are patients with mild infections and who are undergoing home quarantine.
Another 21,581 (10.7%) are those under isolation at low-risk quarantine centres, while 10,321 (5.1%) are hospitalised.
There are 1,114 (0.5%) patients in intensive care units (ICUs), including 615 (0.3%) who are on ventilators.
The utilisation rate of ICU beds in Negri Sembilan and Labuan remains low at 30.9% and 26.1%, respectively.
States with an ICU utilisation rate that is more than 90% are Penang (99.2%), Putrajaya (95%) and Kedah (93.2%).
