Covid-19: Recoveries outpace new cases for second day in a row

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,571 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (June 12), says the Health Ministry.

       The ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,570 of Sunday's new Covid-19 infections were local transmissions while there was one imported case.

       This brings the total number of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia to 4,526,298 since the pandemic began.

       The portal also reported that recoveries outpaced new infctions for a second day in a row, with 1,887 individuals recovering from Covid-19.

       The total number of recoveries in the country now stands at 4,468,191 cases.

       According to CovidNow, there are currently 22,395 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, with 95.4%, or 21,375 individuals, observing home quarantine and 18 people, or 0.1%, warded at Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centres throughout the country.

       Some 976 individuals, or 4.4% of Sunday's active cases, are being treated in hospital while there are currently 26 people warded in intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide.

       Malaysia's ICU utilisation rate stands at 59.9% overall nationwide, with the utilisation rate for Covid-19 cases at 5.9%.

       The Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there was one death due to Covid-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 35,712 since the pandemic began.
