Johor police: Over 10 million outstanding summonses worth RM3.02bil recorded since 2000

       JOHOR BARU: Johor police recorded a total of RM3.02bil in outstanding summonses involving various traffic offences since the year 2000.

       Its state Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Deputy Supt Khairul Azhar Ismail said of the total, the outstanding summonses involving Singaporeans were RM58.07mil.

       He said the number involved a total of 193,583 summonses issued by the police given to the island republic motorists.

       "Since 2000 until now, the number of outstanding summonses at the Johor police contingent is over 10 million involving various traffic offences.

       "Among the offences recorded were speeding, obstructing traffic, violating traffic lights, no driving licence, expired licence, modifying a vehicle and using a mobile phone while driving," he said when met at the state police headquarters here on Friday (Dec 10).

       Earlier, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (pic) paid a surprise visit to the Johor Baru South police traffic headquarters to observe the payment of outstanding summonses by the public.

       The police are giving up to 80% discounts for the payment of summonses.

       DSP Khairul Azhar added that from Dec 1 until Thursday (Dec 9), police had collected payments of summonses amounting to RM4.8mil.

       He, however, said when the discounts started on Thursday, the payments collected so far were at RM1.6mil.

       “So far, the districts that have recorded the most payments involve Johor Baru South with a collection of RM730,960, followed by Batu Pahat (RM539,380) and Muar (RM469,500).

       "To facilitate the payment of summonses, the public can visit 14 traffic branches at all Johor district police headquarters," he added.

       DSP Khairul Azhar urged motorists to make full use of the discounts given to settle their outstanding summonses, which is until Sunday (Dec 12).
