Prince Harry's memoir to overshadow projects as Duke forces focus on past: 'Can't compete'

Books by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle focussing on themselves could risk overshadowing the causes they care about, according to a royal expert. Royal commentator Victoria Murphy, while speaking on Palace Confidential, said that people will be talking about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's book deals for the foreseeable future. She argued that it would then be difficult to then shine a light on their charity work or causes they care about.

Ms Murphy said: "I think there is an audience for everything that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry do.

"I think the Bench received quite critical reviews in many places but it was still a best-seller.

"I think that is where we are at with the Sussexes, everything that they do gets huge amounts of attention and will do really well commercially."

The royal expert went on to highlight how this success could undermine the key projects including charitable works Meghan and Harry are championing.

Ms Murphy continued: "What is interesting is that the other projects, when they left the Royal Family there was a sense that Meghan and Harry were going to put a distance between themselves and royal life.

"There was a sense that they would be looking outward and going to be working on things that shined a light on causes that they cared about.

"There has been a bit of that but there has been a lot of introspection, self-reflection and being open about that and looking back.

"With Harry doing this book that is going to trump everything.

"That is the big moment that everyone is going to be talking about when it comes to the couple for the next year-and-a-half.

"We are therefore going to be looking back with them because that is what this book is covering.

"The ability for other projects, where they may be looking forward or talking about other things to get attention, how can they compete with Prince Harry's memoir about everything that went on in royal life?"

Prince Harry's book is expected to be published sometime in 2022, the same year as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Duke of Sussex has faced significant backlash for announcing his intention to publish his memoir.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams argued the decision to release the book was extremely bad news.

He added it would make it more difficult for Harry to repair his strained relationship with the Firm afterwards.
