Thumbs up for aid package

“The aid is comprehensive, covering the B40 and M40 groups, including those below the poverty line, fresh graduates, as well as the jobless. As many business sectors are still not allowed to operate, a one-off assistance will be very helpful. The electricity discount of between 5% and 40% for usage below 900kWh will definitely help to reduce the burden of the B40 group. The wage subsidy as well as place and training allocation will help industry players to sustain their business and find the required workers.” -Ipoh City Watch president Dr Richard Ng, 63

“It has been a hard year for me and my business. I used to set up sound systems during events and business was good before the pandemic started. I live with my parents and siblings now. We will only go out and look for food items with longer shelf life to keep in the fridge. Thankfully, we also receive food baskets. I hope the programme will be carried out efficiently with the RM300,000 allocation given to MPs under Pemulih. Typically, we get a bag of 10kg rice, instant noodles, sugar, eggs and canned food but it would be good to have some vegetables as well. The discount on electricity bills is also a good move.” -Robimar Robert,33, unemployed in Sabah

“The six-month moratorium will help in managing my finances with the tough times now. I can use the extra money for other needs to sustain myself in the next few months.” -Lee Shew Yean, 37, full-time student in Penang

“I just got retrenched, hence I am looking forward to signing up for the MyFutureJobs scheme. I am also thankful for the RM300 allowance. The retraining and courses offered by Socso will give me an opportunity to upskill and start anew.” -Govin Raaj, 29, former hotel sales manager in Genting Highlands

“The discount on electricity is helpful for families to save on their utility bills, especially with more people working and learning from home. It is also advisable to practise energy-saving measures such as switching off lights when not in use. Parents should explain to their children the need to reduce electricity usage.” -Siti Hajar Mahmud, 45, personal assistant in Selangor

“The six-month moratorium will help a lot, especially for businessmen like me as we have high commitments. It will help me sustain my business before I can resume operations again. The wage subsidy scheme will also assist me to pay my workers who were asked to go on no-pay leave.” -Abu Musarrif Abu Bakar, 33, production house company owner in Penang

“The subsidies for utilities are most welcome. Under this latest package, the government has covered almost all sectors. I also call upon the authorities to monitor the supply of essential items and action must be taken against parties who raise the prices indiscriminately.” -Ipoh Hindu Devasthana Paripalana Sabah president M. Vivekananda

“I lost my job as a school bus driver during the movement control order last year. I was the sole breadwinner as my wife could not work. Now, I work as a hawker but business is not good. Luckily, one of my sons landed a job as a general worker. I was told that the government will give RM300 allowance through MyFutureJobs. I welcome this because it can be of help to those who lost their jobs during the pandemic.” -Lai Heng Seng, 52, hawker in Kuala Lumpur
