Man sentenced to six months jail for being illegally in possession of wild animals, pangolin scales

       SIBU: A 57-year-old man has been sentenced to six months jail and fined RM28,202 in default of six months jail by the Sessions Court on Tuesday (Jan 25) after he pleaded guilty to illegally being in possession of various types of birds and wildlife as well as 28,181 pangolin scales.

       The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 25), said the case was heard before Justice Marutin Pagan.

       The accused, Then Choon Foh was charged under Section 29(2) of the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 of being in possession of 22.14kg of pangolin scales in Kanowit at 10.30am on Jan 21 without any valid licence or permission.

       SFC extended its gratitude to the public and the other enforcement agencies for their continuous support in battling wildlife crime in Sarawak.
