ONLINE platforms selling second-hand goods are seeing a surge in listings as millions of Chinese shoppers are experiencing buyer’s remorse following the annual Nov 11 Single’s Day sale, reported China Press.

It was earlier reported that sales on online shopping giants Tmall.com and JD.com on Nov 11 exceeded 540 billion yuan (RM353bil) and 349 billion yuan (RM229bil), respectively.

However, many shoppers who now regret their purchases or find themselves in severe need of cash are selling them on the used-goods website Goofish.com.

One of these shoppers was Xiao Xin who said she would buy cosmetics every year on Nov 11.

However, after receiving a large bill for her purchases, Xiao Xin said she will be “forced to eat sand” if she does not do something about it.

“After I woke up (the next day), I already regretted it. I immediately listed the products on Goofish.com to limit my losses,” she said.

Xiao Xin said she thinks she will be able to recoup one-third of the money she spent.

With millions experiencing buyer’s remorse, it also presented a new set of opportunities for businesses.

Some are resorting to scooping up barely-used products listed by desperate shoppers at cheap prices in order to sell them at a profit in the near future.

According to such a buyer on Goofish.com, buying used goods right after Nov 11 every year and reselling them later helped him earn several hundred thousand yuan per year.

       > An octogenarian in China’s Jiangsu province miraculously survived after slipping and falling off her balcony, which left her dangling only by her foot, reported China Press.

The incident happened on Nov 20 at the 19th floor of an apartment block when an 82-year-old woman was drying her clothes on the balcony.

She slipped and fell over but luckily her foot got caught between the balcony railings of the apartment on the 18th floor directly below hers, leaving her dangling around 72m in the air.

Her neighbour immediately called the fire department and the police who arrived shortly.

They managed to pull the woman back indoors in just 10 minutes.

       > Educationist group United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) chairman Tan Tai Kim is poised to be elected as chairman once more after securing the Johor branch as one of the central committee states, reported Sin Chew Daily.

At the 32nd Dong Zong state central committee election on Saturday, Johor was selected as a central committee state, which will allow it to send three representatives to the next round of elections which will take place on Dec 4.

Other Dong Zong state branches selected as central committee states are Melaka, Kedah, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak.

Non-central committee states will only be allowed to send one representative each.
