A TOTAL of 173 pupils from seven Tamil schools who were affected by the recent floods in Selangor received school bags and other necessities from Gabungan Persatuan Masyarakat India Malaysia (Gamia), Malaysia Nanban reported.
Its president Mohan Maduraiveeran said the families were still struggling after the disaster in December.
Gamia, which has been helping the community for the past 14 years, wants to ensure the students are ready to start the new school term and will not get left behind as their families had lost their belongings.
> A maths teacher in Tamil Nadu, India, is being investigated after a student apparently killed herself because he had reprimanded her, the daily also reported.
The 17-year-old student was reportedly berated in front of the class, though the reason was not disclosed.
Before she died at home two days later, she had sent WhatsApp messages to her classmates about being upset with the teacher for scolding her.
