Two people were taken to hospitals after one Metra train struck a car and another struck a person within about half an hour of each other on Thursday evening, authorities said.
Around 5:30 p.m., a Metra train struck a car on the Rock Island mainline near 112th Street, in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.
Paramedics took a man in his 20s to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said.
The Metra train was not in service and was empty, Gillis said. He did not have additional information about the circumstances surrounding the collision.
About 30 minutes later, around 6 p.m., a Metra train pulling into Millennium Station downtown struck a person on the tracks, Gillis said.
Paramedics took the person to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Merritt said. He did not have information about the person’s gender, age or condition.
Metra was reporting no major service disruptions as a result of either collision, Gillis said.
