PETALING JAYA: Despite having recovered from Covid-19, Ahmad Syahir Razak still experiences slight breathing difficulties when he does strenuous physical work.

The 35-year-old insurance agent said he tested positive last month.

At that time, he had yet to receive two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

He urged the relevant authorities to put in place a system to monitor those who had recovered from the disease.

“Initially, my wife and I experienced mild symptoms like sore throat and fever.

“We thought it was just a normal fever but later, we lost our sense of taste and smell.

“We got ourselves tested and the results came back positive,” he said in an interview.

Ahmad Syahir said they waited and waited for a call from the district health office.

In the end, they just quarantined at home.

“Although I had mild symptoms, I do sometimes have chest pain,” Ahmad Syahir said.

Muhammad Khuzaimi Ishak, 30, who works at the Tunku Azizah Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, was confirmed positive in early July after experiencing a mild sore throat.

“I still felt healthy the next day. I assumed it was only a normal sore throat, so I went to work as usual,” he said.

“On July 3, I got a sore throat and nose block.

“I felt uneasy only after I lost my sense of smell and taste.”

He was found to be Covid-19-positive the next day.

“I accepted the results calmly because I believed that the vaccine would prevent me from falling severely ill,” he said.

Sharing the experience of his 10 days in quarantine, Muhammad Khuzaimi said his blood pressure and heart rate were unstable as they kept rising.

“Thankfully, after that period, I finally recovered. Although not 100%, I was better than before.

“So my mild symptoms show that the vaccine works,” he added.

Retiree Yong Choong Wah, 68, and his wife also tested positive for the disease last month.

After receiving the results, he was told to go to the Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.

“So far, I have been feeling fine after recovering,” he said.

Yong felt that it was unnecessary for the health authorities to keep track of those who had recovered from the disease.

“It is better that they use their resources for other purposes such as treating those who are in Categories 3, 4 and 5,” he said.
