ISKANDAR PUTERI: Aman allegedly slashed his 37-year-old housemate because he was talking too loudly over the phone in Taman Nusa Bestari here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the quarrel started when the 23-year-old suspect was speaking on the phone inside his room and asked the victim to lower his voice.

"We received a distress call at about 5.15pm on Sunday (June 27) and rushed to the location. Upon arrival, a man was seen covered in blood.

"Investigations revealed that the suspect had approached the victim after being ignored, and then pulled out a parang from his pants and struck the victim three times in the head.

"The victim managed to flee downstairs," ACP Dzulkhairi said in a statement Monday (June 28).

He added that a background check revealed that the victim, who was working at a furniture store, had a criminal record with 15 prior offences, all involving drugs.

"We managed to track down the suspect with the help of members of the public and arrested him.

"Investigations revealed that the suspect was working at a factory and had no criminal record. Urine tests conducted were negative for drugs," he added.

ACP Dzulkhairi added that the victim was being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) and in stable condition.

The police also confiscated a 37cm-long parang.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two such punishments upon conviction.

Meanwhile, in another case, ACP Dzulkhairi said nine teenagers, aged from 16 to 20, were issued compound notices totalling RM18,000 for taking part in a motorcycle convoy and travelling more than 10km from where they lived.

"The compound notice was issued for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance to the teenagers, comprising eight males and one female.

"The group was riding on nine motorcycles and was apprehended during a roadblock at the Kota Iskandar Highway heading towards the Sultan Ismail Highway at about 6pm Sunday," he said, adding that the group had also failed to produce any valid travel documents.

The case is being investigated under Rule 16(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) Regulations 2021.
