PETALING JAYA: Many consumers are sticking to online shopping for now even as more stores are allowed to reopen.

Senior human resource executive Cheryl Tan, 32, is still worried about the pandemic and prefers to limit the number of time spent at stores.

“The movement control order has trained me to stay safe indoors and leave home only when necessary.

“The plus point is I’ve learnt to be more frugal with my expenses, too,” said the mother of four from Kuala Lumpur.

To lessen her chances of contracting Covid-19, Tan prefers to shop online.

“Shopping is made easier these days, thanks to the availability of e-commerce websites.

“But I am comfortable shopping at physical stores that adhere to strict standard operating procedure,” she added.

Insurance professional YF Hoo, who moved into his newly renovated home in February, purchased 60% of his household items online.

But he does not mind making a quick dash to a specific shop to order custom-made fittings for his new home.

“For high-end bespoke items, it is better to visit the physical store. That way, customers touch and feel the items,” said the father of one, who is in his 30s.

When contacted, Gerard Jansen, country retail director (Malaysia), Ikea South-East Asia, said it would be opening the Ikea Damansara and Ikea Cheras stores tomorrow upon obtaining the necessary approvals.
