GEORGE TOWN: A pillion rider who was four months' pregnant was killed on the spot after she was involved in an accident at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, near here.
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the incident occurred on Friday (March 18) at about 9am.
He said the 22-year-old victim and the 51-year-old motorcyclist were travelling from Teluk Kumbar to Penang International Airport (PIA).
"Initial investigation showed that the motorcycle was moving straight on the road when it suddenly swerved to the right and grazed a car going in the same direction," he said in a statement Friday.
Supt Kamarul said the victim was pronounced dead by the paramedic team who was at the scene, while the motorcyclist suffered injuries to his face from the accident.
Supt Kamarul said the motorcyclist also had no driving licence and the road tax of the motorcycle had expired.
He said the driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries during the incident and the body of the victim was sent to Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
