GEORGE TOWN: The underwater pipeline in the Prai River burst again on Tuesday.

A 13-second video being shared on WhatsApp shows what appears to be water gushing from the surface of the river.

A man's voice is heard complaining that the pipe had burst again.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow also shared the video and said the underwater pipe at the river had ruptured.

"Dear Penangites, please stay calm as more updates will be provided soon by PBAPP (the Penang Water Supply Corporation)," he said on Facebook.

In a statement on Facebook, PBAPP said it had "detected a sudden major leak on the 1,350mm underwater pipeline section.

"PBAPP is striving to pump water through the pipeline at minimal flow."

PBAPP said the exercise is likely to result in an unscheduled water supply disruption for about 200,000 consumers in the South-West District of the island and some areas in Seberang Prai.

It also said it had activated an emergency response plan and would post updates from time to time.
