KOTA BARU: Police arrested four people, including a married couple, and confiscated two pistols in separate raids in Pasir Mas and Tumpat on Wednesday (Jan 10).

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said in the first raid on a house in Kampung Gual Arang in Pasir Mas at 5.30pm, his team detained a senior citizen, aged 70.

An inspection of a room in the house found 80 yaba pills and a Kuzey GN19 pistol as well as 10 rounds of ammunition.

"We then arrested the suspect's 27-year-old son who was the occupant of the room where the items were found,” Comm Muhamad Zaki told a press conference at Kelantan police headquarters here on Thursday (Jan 11).

"The items seized, including the yaba pills and pistol, are estimated to be worth RM6,680.

"The 70-year-old suspect, who is self-employed, does not have a criminal record but his unemployed son has one offence on his record."

However, he said the senior citizen is still being investigated to determine if he is the mastermind of any criminal activity.

He said the husband had 28 offences on his record, 17 drug-related and 11 criminal matters, while the wife had three criminal offences on her record.

"All four suspects have been remanded for seven days until Jan 16," he said.

"The cases will be investigated in accordance with Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalties) 1971."

Both raids were part of the state's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) Ops Tapis Khas, conducted from Jan 1 to Wednesday.

Comm Muhamad Zaki said the operation saw the arrest of 913 people aged 14 to 70 and the seizure of various drugs worth RM262,891.54.

He added that 880 of those arrested were locals, including three civil servants, and 33 were foreign nationals. – Bernama
