Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has been targetted by political pranksters while speaking at a pro-Trump event in America.
Still dogged by the lettuce that outlasted her stint as Prime Minister, a gag started by the Daily Star as her new premiership almost immediately began to fall apart in September, 2022. Less than two months later, millions saw their mortgage costs skyrocket and Liz Truss was booted out of office.

Surprisingly to some, the Daily Star's lettuce, though slightly wilted, had easily bested Truss' 49 days in office. Though it started out as a simple joke, the googly-eyed and blonde-wigged salad vegetable quickly became synonymous with Truss' short time in office.
In the midst of a faltering speech in support of the former US President, the banner unfurled slowly behind the 49-day Prime Minister, with a picture of the lettuce and the words, "I crashed the economy."

The political stunt was organised by anti-Brexit activists Led By Donkeys, who have carried out similar pranks in the past on the Brexiteer politicians. But for this stunt, they went the extra mile.

Revealing that they were behind the prank, Led By Donkeys took to social media to explain how they had managed to get the banner into the event, and how they unfurled it at just the right moment.
Speaking on X, the group said: "Liz Truss is on a pro-Trump speaking tour. So we dropped a strategically-positioned remote-controlled lettuce banner."
In a video showing the moment that banner slowly unfurled behind her, Liz Truss can be heard speaking falteringly, saying: "I support Trump and I want him to win... But the, it's what I was saying about incumbents, I think the average American is not doing well and people do vote on..."

Then, with impeccable timing, the banner slowly unfurly on stage behind her, revealing first the words "I crashed the economy", as Truss continued, blissfully unaware: "I think it was Bill Clinton's adviser who said 'It's the economy stupid', so I think that he will probably win."
One the former PM noticed the banner, the organisers can be heard asking how it got there in the first place. Meanwhile, Truss remains silent packing up her and walked off stage
Picking up her things, Liz Truss, wearing a salad-green dress, can be heard saying quietly to the organisers, "That's not funny," before walking off the stage.

The embarrassing prank comes as the 49-day PM attempts to establish a reputation abroad, stumping for Trump amid the hotly contested presidential election.
Recently, going against the political mainstream, Truss through her support behind billionaire Twitter/X owner Elon Musk, who has been attacked by PM Sir Keir Starmer for allowing the spread of disinformation on his social media platform, linked to the violent riots that spread in the aftermath of the Southport stabbings.
Ahead of a planned event on X with former President Trump, Musk was urged by the EU to avoid spreading further disinformation. The 53-year-old replied with a meme from the movie Tropic Thunder, saying "Take a big step back and literally, **** your own face!”
Backing Musk's approach to free speech, Ms Truss said on X: “I am appalled by the attacks on free speech in Britain and Europe. We can't be truly free without free speech.
