OKAYAMA -- A 2-year-old boy left unconscious and in a serious condition after his neck was caught in a day care center's playground equipment in October died in hospital on Nov. 15, the Mainichi Shimbun learned from Okayama Prefectural Police.
He was found on the morning of Oct. 14 stuck in playground equipment -- which includes a slide and monkey bars -- at the Daini Sakura day care center in the city of Okayama's Kita Ward. His neck was caught in a narrow space situated between a partition and below the floor of an elevated section. The boy was taken to hospital, but had remained unconscious since.
The prefectural police are investigating the center's safety management.
