A DAD says it has taken two years to find school uniform to fit his six-year-old son's 7st 7lbs frame after endlessly searching high street stores.

       Despite doing more than 12,000 steps a day and playing sport, dad Nathan Jones, from Greater Manchester, says regular size trousers won't go over his son A-Jay's thighs.

       The 40-year-old plasterer, who lives in Hyde, says he and wife Lisa have battled to find a "plus size" school uniform to fit their son.

       Nathan told The Sun: "We have struggled for two years to find a plus-size uniform on the high street.

       "The regular trousers won’t go over A-Jay’s thighs.

       "Lisa has to hide her tears from him – she feels like she is failing him."

       A-Jay - who lives with his parents and siblings Lilly-May, 12, and Caleb, ten months, who are both "average size" - is doing his best to shed some pounds.

       "We are trying to help A-Jay lose weight," Nathan added.

       "He does 12,000 steps a day, plays football and goes swimming, but he is a picky eater.

       "The reality is some kids will be plus-size and we need to accept that lockdown has probably caused some of them to put on weight.

       "To wear school uniform like his friends and not be ashamed of talking about the issue is part of solving the obesity crisis."

       Little A-Jay says he is chuffed to finally have a school uniform that fits him.

       "I love my new clothes," the youngster said.

       "I feel super-cool. I don’t want kids like me to be -bullied. We can be cool too.”

       'FRUSTRATION'

       Meanwhile, mum Chloe, from Grays, Essex, says her daughter Lola - who weighs 6st which is almost twice the average for a girl her age - has been builled.

       The 33-year-old says she also finds it difficult to shop for her daughter on the high street after putting weight on in lockdown - but says she is doing all she can to help Lola lose weight.

       "Shopping with Lola on the high street usually ends in frustration and anger.

       "I haven’t been able to buy school skirts let alone party skirts because she is big for her age. We have tried size 12 women’s skirts but they are too ‘sexy’.

       "Lola is taller than average at 3ft 11in and takes after her grandad, who was 6ft 6in."

       It comes after a mother told how her sporty daughter put on weight during lockdown meaning she couldn't find a school uniform to fit her 12st frame.

       Lorraine Emmins was juggling her ￡14,000-a-year job while looking after three children at home and making meals on a tight budget through the pandemic.

       The cleaner, 41, from Helston, Cornwall says being trapped at home caused her 10-year-old daughter Leaha to gain weight.

       Lorraine told The Sun: “She’s always been a big child.

       “I noticed she was putting on weight in the first lockdown. She was at the computer more for home schooling and watching more TV.

       “I know the kids were snacking more. We have taken Leaha to the doctor but they said it’s puppy fat and she should exercise more."
