JOHOR BARU: The police has received a thumbs up from MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong for the arrest of four men that have been harassing the party's national public complaints and service bureau deputy chief Chua Jian Boon.
Dr Wee, who is also Transport Minister, also congratulated Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchy for the arrests.
"Congratulations Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and all of the police team for their success in arresting four men that have been harassing MCA national public complaints and service bureau deputy chief Chua Jian Boon," he said on Facebook on Wednesday (Nov 10).
On Tuesday (Nov 9), Comm Ayob said that four members of an illegal money lending syndicate, believed to be the culprits behind threats towards Chua, have been arrested by the police.
He said that the suspects were arrested between Oct 27 and 31 in separate raids around Johor Baru.
"On Oct 7, Chua had lodged a report after his house was splashed by red paint and getting threats from loan sharks for helping those involved in 'Ah Long' cases.
"Following the report, the police launched an investigation to locate and arrest those involved. On Oct 27, we managed to arrest three of the suspects around Permas Jaya and Taman Setia Indah.
"Meanwhile, the fourth suspect was arrested on Oct 31 at Taman Abad at about 2.45pm," he said, adding that the suspects are between the ages of 18 and 34.
One of the suspects, Teng Chee Sing, 34, has been sentenced to five months in jail after pleading guilty to threatening to burn down Chua's family house.
He was charged under Section 507 of the Penal Code at the Kulai magistrate court on Wednesday (Nov 10) morning.
