A prisoner in Washington managed to escape from the custody of Department of Corrections officers while he was being transported through the airport, authorities said.

The Washington Department of Corrections and local law enforcement officers are now looking for 20-year-old John Nino who fled from custody while he was being escorted through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Nino, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 154 pounds, was wearing a red coat and gray sweatpants and officers say they last saw him crossing the railroad tracks and heading towards Highway 99 before he disappeared.

The Washington Department of Corrections has told ABC News that John Nino was on community supervision for second-degree robbery and that a warrant for him was issued in June after he failed to report for meetings with his community corrections officer.

Nino was arrested several days ago in New Mexico and was being returned to Department of Corrections custody in Washington when managed to escape.

This is not the first time this year that an inmate has managed to escape police custody on the grounds of Sea-Tac Airport.

In May, an inmate, 29-year-old Sedric Stevenson, had also escaped custody while being transported across state lines at the airport and was able to evade authorities for over six weeks before he was eventually captured 45 days later.

“This arrest sends a clear message: no matter how long it takes or how far someone runs, justice will catch up with them. Our deputies and taskforce officers worked tirelessly and with unwavering dedication to bring Stevenson back into custody. The community can rest easier, knowing a dangerous fugitive is no longer on the streets” said U.S. Marshal Donrien Stephens following Stevenson’s arrest.

Authorities are now searching for Nino but have asked the public not to approach the suspect if they see him and to report any sightings of Nino to the police.

ABC News' Tristan Maglunog contributed to this report.
