KLANG: With heavy rain expected to continue in several states including Selangor, the authorities have urged people in the affected areas to limit their movements and stay at home.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said it is better for people to stay at home.
“If the water level is rising and your house becomes inundated with water, the safest option is to evacuate to the nearest evacuation centre.
“People should also be careful of using electrical appliances if their houses are affected by the floods,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Norazam said motorists in light vehicles should avoid crossing roads where the water is rising and the current strong.
“I also want to advise families to keep a watchful eye on their children.
“Do not allow them to swim in the floodwaters,” he said, adding that it is difficult to gauge the depth of the water.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said state police are coordinating with all the relevant agencies to ensure the safety of all those affected by the floods.
“We will deploy our personnel to help ensure the safety of people in the affected areas,” he said.
“Always listen to advice and orders from our personnel for your own safety and avoid taking unnecessary risks.”
