PETALING JAYA: Subsidies for cooking oil under the National People's Well-being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih) by the government will be beneficial to Malaysians, says Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (pic).

Under the RM150bil Pemulih package, the government will be implementing a "price control" programme based on the threshold of crude palm oil to control the prices of cooking oils in bottles and polybags.

Khairuddin, in welcoming the Pemulih package, said Malaysians were anticipating the announcement as it would alleviate the burden brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I'm also very appreciative of the concern shown by the Prime Minister, as it is the same as my Ministry's hope to address the recent rise in cooking oil prices,"

Khairuddin said with the implementation of the cooking oil subsidy that five kilograms of cooking oil will not cost more than RM30 a bottle.

“In fact, the people may get five kilograms for a cheaper price if the price control can be implemented better,” he added.

Khairuddin said his Ministry will continue monitoring ongoing developments, in order to ensure that the cooking oil subsidies can be improved in future so that such assistance will trickle down to the needy and downtrodden.
