SEGAMAT: As the ground campaigning activities intensify, See Ann Giap(pic) is working doubly hard to canvass for votes while also rebutting any false allegations made to tarnish his efforts.

The Barisan Nasional candidate for the Jementah state seat said that he wanted to ensure voters were informed and updated with the right information.

"There will be a lot of fake news and allegations flying around, especially on social media platforms to confuse the people when the polls get near.

"I will not be affected but I will still make a statement to clarify so that the people know.

"As more voters are warming up to an MCA candidate here this time, I feel that it is my responsibility to keep them informed with the truth," he said.

Citing an example, the Segamat MCA Youth division chief said that an unknown man claiming to be his friend had been harassing voters with frequent calls and messages in Jementah several days ago.

"I received complaints from some voters and found that I didn't know this person. He even added some voters into a chat group.

"This is wrong and I have immediately issued a statement to clarify and warn the voters," he said.

The 31-year-old who has been active in social and community programmes in Kampung Baru Jementah and the neighbourhood since his teenage years has great aspirations for his hometown.

"I want to make Jementah's economy better by developing the agricultural and tourism industry. Agriculture is important in Jementah, said See.

"Apart from rubber and oil palm, Jementah is also famous for its local fruit crops, such as pomelos, grapefruits and durians.

"My goal is to promote and develop the agro-tourism industry here, as well as to expand the scope of agricultural businesses by integrating technology.

"I also want to market the fruit products online and through a special fruit centre to be set up in Segamat town.

"This wide market scope will certainly increase the income of farmers and smallholders, and in turn boost the agricultural economy, and in turn create economic spillovers to the tourism industry and private sector," he said.

With Jementah having beautiful hill views and many old temples, See said the places of interest can also be made into tourist attractions.

"As a child of the Jementah village, I am very proud of my beautiful and cosy hometown. However, not many people know this place.

"'Hence, if I am given a mandate, my focus will be to promote Jementah and make it a well-known destination," he said.

See noted that he would also work towards developing the public transport infrastructure in Jementah, including expediting the construction of the Segamat-Tangkak highway to facilitate logistics and transportation for farmers and smallholders.

See is in a three-cornered fight in Jementah, against Maimunah Safwah Musa from PAS and Ng Kor Sim from DAP.
