JOHOR BARU: The floods in Segamat prompted immediate action from Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim who visited the district on New Year’s Day.
In a Facebook post, Tunku Ismail said he drove to Segamat after receiving news that floods had hit several villages in the district.
He also visited several temporary shelters (PPS) in the district such as PPS SK Kampung Tenang and PPS Dewan Pekan Air Panas in Labis, as well as PPS SJKC Ai Chun.
“Alhamdulillah, necessities have been distributed and the situation is under control,” he said.
Tunku Ismail also said that the situation in other districts such as Muar, Mersing, Pontian and Kota Tinggi are being monitored.
“However, Pontian is seeing heavier rainfall. I will monitor and act upon reports,” he added.
Tunku Ismail left Istana Bukit Pelangi at about 1am yesterday and headed straight for Segamat before returning to Johor Baru around 7am.
The Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ) gave out 200 food aid boxes to victims in PPS SK Kampung Tenang; 100 boxes to PPS Dewan Pekan Air Panas; and another 200 boxes to PPS SJKC Ai Chun.
The affected villages were Kampung Sermin, Kampung Lembah Bakti, Kampung Pekan Air Panas, Kampung Paya Lenga, Kampung Paya Lebar, Kampung Paya Chinchin, Kampung Tenang, Kampung Sedeng and Kampung Paya Lang.
Meanwhile, Johor MCA Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) chief Tai Chee How and state MCA Youth vice chairman See Ann Giap visited PPS SJKC Tah Kang in Gemas Baru.
During their visit, See donated RM300 to the PPS where 58 flood victims from nearby villages are currently being housed.
