Brexit LIVE: Finally! Massive boost as UK gets tough on fishing - new rules protect waters

The jump from 50 to 70 percent means more fish can be sold and processed in the UK bringing a major boost to the fishing industry after Brexit. Those who fail to meet the landing or crewing requirement will have to donate quota which will increase from 16.5 percent to 20 percent next year.

Now Britons have celebrated the Brexit win after Prime Minister Boris Johnson was accused of sacrificing the fishing industry to get Brexit done.

One Express.co.uk reader, GrafGeiger, commented: "Excellent positive steps, harnessing British funds saved from EU, increasing British crews, British catches and British coastal infrastructure, all at the expense of the EU.

       "Enjoy the bonanza.

"Buy more British salmon, haddock, cod, prawns, seabass, hake, sole, turbot, halibut, mackerel, sardines, herring, whelks, scallops, clams, tuna."

Ridusofeu added: "Gradually, over time, we will se the resurgence of the UK fishing industry and processing plants.

"We can then all take great delight in seeing the demise of the EU fishing industry in much the same way they celebrated their ability to plunder British fish stocks and receive additional quota via the EU."
