THE heartbroken parents of a baby boy killed in his pram in a horror crash today faced the pensioner driver charged over his death.

       Louis Thorold was being pushed on the pavement by mum Rachael when two vehicles collided in the road.

       The crash caused a van to veer into Louis' pram - killing the five-month-old.

       His mum Rachael was left with life-changing injuries and spent more than 100 days in hospital after the horror in Cambridge in January last year.

       Shelagh Robertson, 75, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates' Court charged with causing the infant's death by careless driving.

       The pensioner was allegedly driving a Mazda 2 carelessly on the A10 when it collided with the van.

       Roberston spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address and to ask the court clerk to repeat some of what she said as she struggled to hear.

       She was bailed to next appear at Cambridge Crown Court on March 17.

       Rachael and Louis' dad Chris watched proceedings from the public gallery.

       Chris previously paid tribute to his baby son as Rachael recovered ub hospital.

       He said: "We will love you always our little Louis.

       "You were only with us for a short time, but you made us the happiest people in the world.

       "I cannot describe how heartbroken we are that you are gone. You are such a happy little boy and your joyful smile and laughter will never leave us.

       "Your ma-ma is fighting to stay with us and we are praying that she will make it through.

       "You will always be in our hearts and do not worry, I am taking care of all your animals.

       "We love you so much and we know you will now be safe with Granny, Grandad and Great Grandpa in Heaven.

       "Take care my little Lou, sweet dreams."
