KUALA LUMPUR: A girl who was caught on video standing precariously on a condominium balcony here was not being punished by her parents, says Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff.

The Kuala Lumpur CID chief said police started investigations on the matter after a report was lodged on the video on Thursday (Jan 6).

“The girl is five years old and was at her grandmother’s home, while the rest of the family was preparing for her aunt’s wedding ceremony.

“The girl’s father claimed that she is hyperactive and she had gone to the balcony to look at the swimming pool downstairs,” he said in a statement on Friday (Jan 7).

After three minutes, the girl’s parents managed to coax her to come inside, he added.

“We are investigating the matter under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001,” he said.

SAC Saiful Annuar reminded the public not to speculate or share any unverified news, as it could disrupt police investigations.

“Those with information on any crime are urged to contact the KL police hotline at 03-2146 0584/585 or any nearest police station.
