Omid Scobie co-authored "Finding Freedom", the story of how the Sussexes stepped down as senior royals, with Carolyn Durand. A new chapter has just been released, dealing with the aftermath of Harry and Meghan’s Oprah Winfrey interview in March.

       The Duchess claimed there had been “concerns and conversations” about Archie’s skin tone, within the Royal Family, ahead of his birth.

       Appearing on ITV's This Morning to promote his book, Mr Scobie claimed he had also faced “prejudice” from royal circles.

       He said: “I have experienced some prejudice from some of the royal aides in the past.

       “I wouldn't say racist, I would say I experienced prejudice.

       “I'm mixed race, there aren't many mixed-race royal correspondents out there.”

       This Morning co-host Rochelle Humes asked Mr Scobie who made the remark.

       He responded: “I would not name that person.”

       The author clarified the comment was not made by a Royal Family member.

       He continued: “Someone very senior within the palace who found it very peculiar that I spoke as well as I do - and that was pretty much how they said it to me.

       “I’m used to the whole, 'Where are you from? Where are you really from?' and all of that kind of stuff.

       “But that was a very loaded comment and I'm sure that it didn't come from a nasty place, but it just shows - perhaps - a level of unawareness within certain quarters of the institution.

       “And when you think of Meghan, the first biracial senior Royal Family member, of course she's going to deal with that on a 100x bigger scale.”

       Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as senior Royal Family members in January 2020.

       Instead, the couple vowed to become “financially independent” and moved to California, Meghan’s home state.

       The Sussexes March 2021 interview with Ms Winfrey was first broadcast by CBS.

       Meghan claimed she struggled to receive mental health support within the Royal Family, and said racially charged comments were made ahead of Archie’s birth.

       She added: “That was relayed to me from Harry.

       “Those were conversations that family had with him.”

       Harry confirmed a discussion had taken place commenting: “That conversation, I am never going to share.

       “At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

       Neither Harry nor Meghan would name the royal they allege made the comment.

       Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement, on behalf of the Queen, in response.

       While expressing regret at the Sussexes’ difficulties, it added “some recollections may vary” about the events they described.
