When dreaming of a sunny getaway with all the paradise trimmings, many will think of the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is like no other place thanks to its pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, vibrant marine life and some of the warmest weather around.

It’s also a place for an array of water activities, with many of the islands being home to picturesque natural features such as volcanic scenery and waterfalls.

One particular spot boasts all of that and more, with dramatic mountains, forests, rivers, and a tropical climate to boot.

Yet despite being a prime destination for relaxation and beauty, tourist numbers remain low, particularly among British tourists.

Dominica is a small island in the eastern Caribbean Sea formed from volcanic activity.

The landscape here is one-of-a-kind with a range of high mountains covered in lush forests.

Compared to many other Caribbean islands, Dominica’s tourism industry is considered to be underdeveloped, with only 65,000 visitors per year.

According to IMF eLibrary, in 2019 only 5.7% of stay-over visitors to Dominica were from the UK.

The figures also revealed that among stay-over visitors, most tourists came from the Caribbean region, further highlighting how this beautiful spot is significantly lacking in international tourists.

Due to this, the government in Dominica is doing all it can to boost tourism, and with what’s on offer here, it's a no-brainer why this region should be your next sun-drenched getaway.

Nicknamed the "Nature Island of the Caribbean,” Dominica boasts a pristine coastline with crystal-clear waters and vast stretches of unspoiled rainforest.

Despite being off the tourist radar, it’s well worth a visit thanks to its nine semi-active volcanoes, diverse marine life, towering mountains, and even a host of natural hot springs scattered throughout.

Must-visit spots in Dominica include exploring Titou Gorge, Trafalgar Falls, Boiling Lake, Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Champagne Reef and Mero Beach.

There are also an endless amount of hiking trails there, with the grandest of all being the Waitukubuli National Trail (WNT) which is the longest hiking trail in the Caribbean at a whopping 155 miles.

Those looking for a truly unique experience far away from the hustle and bustle of the western world will find it in Dominica.

The region has no highways or traffic signals, no high-rise resorts, and no fast food chains, apart from one KFC.
