After the eSIM, the time of the iSIM is on the horizon. In collaboration with Thales and Vodafone, Qualcomm has developed an integrated SIM, directly embedded in the mobile processor. The technology was demonstrated in a lab environment, on a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, equipped with a Snapdragon 888 chip.

       This technology can offer several advantages. The first, most obvious one is the space that is saved. But that’s not all. It allows for enhanced security, as it is guaranteed by a certification validated by the chip’s manufacturer. Operators will be able to update the SIM remotely, and the iSIM will be able to host multiple accounts simultaneously on one device, for greater flexibility.

       Above all, this technology opens the door for new mobile services to be integrated into a host of other types of mobile devices allowing for new opportunities in connectivity.
