KUALA LUMPUR: An actor has been duped by a man claiming that he was brokering a deal on behalf of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said that the actor lodged a report on Wednesday (July 21).

"The 41-year-old actor, with the Datuk title, said that he had been cheated during a supposed deal to extend a cleaning project tender with DBKL.

"He was allegedly offered the tender by a 26-year-old man who introduced himself as a ‘Datuk’.

"The victim was told to pay 1% of the tender project's price as collateral.

“However, once payment was made, the suspect gave various excuses when asked about the project, before being uncontactable," ACP Beh said in a statement Thursday (July 22).

The victim told the police that he had transferred RM18,100 to the suspect's private account as the supposed collateral.

"The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

"The police advise all to be careful when dealing with offers. As a precautionary move, it is advised that you check with the relevant agencies to confirm any such projects before proceeding," he said.
