KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into a crime syndicate in Ampang Jaya showed that scammers had been using popular dating application Tinder to find prospective targets.
Investigations led to a raid on April 21 at an apartment in Taman Nirvana, Ampang Jaya.
"Five suspects were arrested, aged from 19 to 43 years old. Two were foreigners from China.
"Suspects would chat with potential victims via Tinder before continuing on social media messaging apps.
"They would offer luxury goods at below market prices and once payment had been received, the items would not be delivered as promised," said Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak in a statement Friday (April 22).
The group had been active for around a month.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, added ACP Farouk.
