MELAKA: Police have arrested 14 people, including 12 foreign women, in three separate raids during an anti-vice operation.

       Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said all the suspects were believed to be connected to a prostitution ring that offered its services via social media.

       He said the raids were conducted at premises in Jalan Limbongan Klebang Kechil and Taman Melaka Raya on Aug 12.

       "The suspects included Vietnamese and Thai women, and two local men believed to be caretakers of the premises," he said on Monday (Aug 16).

       DCP Abdul Majid said the suspects were aged between 22 and 43.

       He said the prostitution ring offered services through social media apps and charged each client from RM150 to RM260.

       "The money would be paid directly to the women after each session," he added.

       DCP Abdul Majid said police also seized RM600 and items such as condoms and lubricants during the raids.

       The suspects have been remanded to assist investigations under Section 372A of the Penal Code for committing prostitution, the Immigration Act 1959/63, and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations.
