A WOMAN in Tamil Nadu has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for forcing her teenage daughter into sex work, Makkal Osai reported.
The troubles faced by the 15-year-old came to light after she ran away from Chennai and found refuge with an elderly roadside fruit seller in Tirupati, which is a city about 150km away.
Andhra Pradesh state police, who began looking into the case, eventually placed the girl under the custody of Chennai police.
The case was then investigated by the Central Bureau of Investi gation.
It led to the arrest of the mother. She was nabbed along with two other women and at least four men who were involved in the girl’s abuse.
The mother was charged and sentenced to a decade in prison under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The others were jailed between seven and 10 years.
