JOHOR BARU: Even though his back is still hurting from a fall, Sjn/Major Harudin Md Sari was the first to show up and cast his ballot in early voting for the Pulai by-election.

The 49-year-old, who is currently attached to the marine police’s engineering unit, arrived at the early voting centre at the Marine Police Region II headquarters in Tampoi at about 7.30am.

“I am actually not well due to a slipped disc after falling while on duty. However, even with my condition, I am adamant to vote, which is why I came early so that I could finish before I start work,” Harudin said.

Harudin said this was his second time voting at the Marine Police Region II headquarters.

It is the second of two early voting centres for the Pulai parliamentary by-election.

The other one is at the Kempas police station.

The Election Commission said some 90% of 927 police officers and other enforcement personnel had cast their votes.

Pulai is one of two by-elections called in Johor following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also the domestic trade and cost of living minister, on July 23.

The other by-election is for the Simpang Jeram state seat but there is no early voting in that constituency.
