KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating a TikTok user who made a provocative post that could jeopardise racial harmony in the country.

It is in connection with the prohibition of the “azan” (call to prayer) using public address systems in Pune, India.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the matter is being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for making a statement with the intention of inciting a group or race.

“We are also investigating under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 27).

He also confirmed that the incident did not occur in Malaysia.

“The directive was issued by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray.

“He also instructed all sound systems taken out from mosques before May 3. It was reported in The New Indian Express portal on April 17,” he said.

Comm Abd Jalil advised the public not to speculate on the matter as it could disrupt the investigation.

“We also advise the public to be more considerate and wary of issues that could touch on racial and religious sensitivities,” he said
