JOHOR BARU: Police will be investigating the case of a viral video which showed a group of people protesting in front of a polling station in Segamat which allegedly closed early.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said although no police report has been lodged over the case so far, the police will investigate the matter.
Based on preliminary investigation, he said the school involved was given the go-ahead to close early at 2pm under the Federal Government Gazette under sub-regulation 11(5A) related to polling hours for the Johor state election.
“There are a few polling centres that have been gazetted to be closed early, so those involved in the election process would already know this.
“Do not try to put a spin on the matter. This has already been stated in the government gazette,” he said when contacted.
He said that there were a few places where polling stations were closed earlier, either at 2pm or 4pm.
Some of the locations were Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Gunung Mas in Ladang Kempas which closed at 2pm, Dewan Orang Ramai Eldred in Ladang Getah Eldred (closed 2pm) and SJK(T) Cantuman Chaah in Chaah Timur (closed 2pm).
“The public can refer to the Election Commission (EC) on why some of these places were gazetted to close earlier,” he added.
Several videoclips circulating via WhatsApp show a group of people protesting the closure of a few polling centres in Bekok, Segamat.
