PETALING JAYA: The new Cabinet will have to work as one to pull the country out of the Covid-19 crisis, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Ayer Hitam MP, who was re-appointed Transport Minister, said bipartisan efforts must also be looked into.
Offering his congratulations to his fellow Cabinet colleagues on their respective appointments, he said: “I am confident that we can work as one to address the Covid-19 pandemic on our shores as the main priority, alongside multifaceted efforts to protect the people’s livelihood and get the economy back on track again, safely and sustainably.
“For this, we need to heed the Prime Minister’s call to strive for unity under the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia in order to do our utmost for the rakyat.
“In line with this, the Cabinet will need to make bipartisan efforts to bridge political divides for the sake of realising the strategies outlined in the National Recovery Plan,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
He said he was grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for appointing him, and pledged to uphold the responsibility entrusted to him.
Dr Wee also hailed the wisdom of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah which led to the formation of a new government.
“There is plenty of work left on my plate in the Transport Ministry and I am very eager to get back to resolving them.
“Besides addressing a multitude of developmental plans and programmes involving land transport, aviation and maritime affairs, the most important thing for the Transport Ministry is to ensure that the movement of goods and people continue unhindered on the road to economic recovery,” he said.
MCA also issued a statement pledging its representatives’ full commitment to do their utmost to revitalise the economy and protect the people’s livelihood.
“With the pandemic ravaging the world, the health and livelihood of the rakyat is under severe threat,” the party said.
It said its representatives shouldered heavy responsibilities and faced serious challenges in leading Malaysia out of these difficult times, adding that they would do their best to servethe rakyat in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.
The four MCA deputy ministers appointed are Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (Education), Datuk Lim Ban Hong (International Trade and Industry), Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker (Youth and Sports) and Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (Plantation Industries and Commodities).
