KUALA LUMPUR: Five luxury vehicles received by the police on Thursday (Oct 7) were for test drive and proof of concept purposes.

The five vehicles, which include BMW M3, X3 and Volkswagen Tiguan, will be test-driven for two weeks.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police have yet to finalise a decision on whether to use the vehicles.

"We are using the vehicles for two weeks on a trial basis without any agreement signed.

"We want to gain feedback whether the vehicles are suitable or not for police duties," he said when contacted on Friday (Oct 8).

He was commenting on photos of the vehicles that went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) department director Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the vehicles will be used by KDNKA, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) and the police escort unit for two weeks.

"The usage of the vehicles are on a trial or proof of concept basis for two weeks, which was offered by a company to the police without any purchases made.

"We will only test drive the vehicles," he said.

Comm Hazani said the police were aware of the government's financial constraints during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"However, the offer given to us is for a test drive," he said.
