Andrew Neil reveals reason Trump will make 'blizzard of radical change' in the White House

Andrew Neil has revealed why he believes Donald Trump will make a “blizzard” of transformation just days into his presidency.

Mr Trump was officially inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States of America, swearing an oath on the Bible yesterday (January 20). Yet, Mr Neil says he seemed “impatient” to implement “radical change” for one stark reason.

Writing for the MailOnline, the journalist said: “Trump is clearly impatient to get going in government, which is hardly surprising given the scale of his ambition to wreak radical change across the piste.

“As he reeled off the familiar “to do” list — everything from “taking back” the Panama Canal to closing the border with Mexico and “drill, baby, drill” — it was almost as if he was signing the executive orders as he went along.”

On his first day of presidency, Mr Trump signed off over 200 executive orders. These are written by the president, carry the weight of law, and do not require approval from Congress. These ranged from his war on woke to secure the borders.

Mr Neil continued: “It suddenly dawned on me: behind the bombast and hyperbole, Trump is an old man in a hurry. At 78, he is the oldest person ever to be sworn in as president — five months older than even Biden when he took office in 2021.”

Mr Neil says the new president will only have “two years to make his mark”—by which point Mr Trump will be 80 years old—due to the 2026 mid-terms. These elections are for Congress, which is made up of two parts—the House of Representatives, external, and the Senate, external. These votes are held every two years.

The journalist says the mid-terms, coupled with his age, are the reason for “the blizzard of executive orders already emanating from the White House”.

Mr Neil believes the orders signed by Mr Trump will “provoke turmoil” within the country and among allies.

By scrapping diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) culture, declaring a national border emergency where the military will effectively" seal" the border, and withdrawing from climate agreements, the 47th president has ruffled the feathers of many, as Mr Neil claimed, adding: “The Trump Rollercoaster 2.0 has begun.”
