Darren McGrady, who worked as the Queen’s head chef in the kitchens of Buckingham Palace from 1982 to 1993, has opened up about the Queen’s eating habits. Over the years the former royal chef has shocked fans of the Firm with his culinary revelations - including one mystery involving the Queen’s love for burgers.

       In an interview with Insider, Mr McGrady revealed the Queen never eats fast food, but makes an exception for burgers.

       However, according to Mr McGrady, Her Majesty doesn’t enjoy just any regular burger.

       He said: “It always tickled me at Balmoral, we would make our own burgers.

       “They [the Royal Family] would shoot deer, and we would do venison burgers.

       “There'd be gorgeous cranberry and everything stuffed into them, but we never set buns out."

       He added: “They would have burgers, but not the buns.

       “So they would eat it with their knife and fork.”

       Mr McGrady explained that an old Royal tradition prevents the Monarch from eating any food with her hands.

       He said: “Her Majesty's Victorian upbringing dictates that the only thing you would pick up and eat with your fingers is afternoon tea.”

       The bizarre royal tradition also prevents the Queen from easily eating many other common foods, such as fruit.

       Mr McGrady has previously explained the difficulty of eating bananas, pears and grapes with a knife, fork or spoon.

       The former Royal chef also shared that while he served in the Royal kitchen, the Queen never had pizza.

       He said: “Eleven years at the palace and we never served pizza at all, not even at receptions.”

       Mr McGrady explained the menus at Buckingham Palace tend to lean towards traditional French cuisine meaning Italian foods such as pizza are avoided.

       However, in a separate interview with Us Weekly, he said Prince William and Kate Middleton were impartial to a good slice.
