POLL: Should Foreign Office release locked Prince Andrew files now?

Lorraine: Ranvir says 'Harry is out in the cold' but not Prince Andrew

Files about Prince Andrew will be kept secret by the Foreign Office until 2065, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie put in the FOI request about the disgraced Duke who has recently been seen attending family events such as a gathering at Balmoral.

Andrew stepped back from royal duties when he faced allegations about his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and he also was accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.

He has always firmly denied the allegations and the matter was settled out of court for a sum reportedly around £12 million, but the locked files means he can avoid further scrutiny from the public during his lifetime - unless he lives to 105.

It is thought that the files could reveal more information about Andrew's former role as the UK’s special representative for trade and industry envoy, a job he quit in 2011 when pictures of him meeting Epstein surfaced.

The late Queen's second-born son was recently at the centre of a reported row between Prince William and the King over whether he should return to the royal fold.

His residence at Royal Lodge is another headache for the King, with the Duke said to be “adamant” that he needs to continue living in the 30-bedroom mansion close to Windsor Castle.

But what do you think? Should the Prince Andrew files be released to the public? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments section.
