CAIRO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egypt is slated to host the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) from Tuesday to Friday, the Egyptian government said in a statement on Monday.

       The four-day conference will be held in the new administrative capital under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, said the statement.

       The event allows the most populous Arab country to gather some 8,000 participants with policy-making, research, or humanitarian backgrounds to share first-hand information on population, health, and development and find ways to tackle common challenges.

       During the event, Egypt is set to launch its National Population Strategy and General Health Strategy, according to the statement.

       Amr Hassan, an advisor to the Egyptian health and population minister, told Xinhua that the event is aimed at "renewing commitments to solving the population problem."

       Spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population Abdel Ghaffar said the event will include 65 dialogue sessions on various topics.

       In September 1994, Egypt hosted the groundbreaking ICPD, where 179 governments worldwide gathered to pass the Programme of Action, the steering document for the United Nations Population Fund.
