SERDANG: Suffering from a hearing impairment has never been an obstacle for Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman (pic) whose love for communicating with and understanding animals.

He received his veterinary medicine degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia at the university’s 45th convocation ceremony

“Due to my disability, I would rather communicate with animals than people. When it comes to people, we need to communicate verbally but with animals, we just observe their behaviour,” he said.

Dr Abdul Aziz, 25, said that his hearing impairment was diagnosed late, when he was in Year One. He began using a hearing aid when he was seven, Bernama reported.

His late mother was his biggest supporter of his dream of becoming a veterinarian, when many others doubted his ambition.

“My work at the clinic involves doing animal sterilisation and soft tissue surgeries. My dream is to become a veterinary surgeon,” he said. He is thankful to his employer who was willing to give him a job despite his disability.

Hussain Said, 27, who was in a wheelchair, obtained his Master’s degree in Malay Language. He thanked his parents for their steadfast encouragement in him.
