I’m overjoyed that the Alexandria City Council did the right thing for our city and unanimously passed the “Zoning for Housing” reforms [“Va. city votes to expand housing,” Metro, Nov. 30].
Our region has not built enough homes for everyone who works here, and that’s because of our local governments’ extreme zoning laws which make it illegal to build the homes we need. “Zoning for Housing” makes needed progress in loosening Alexandria’s extreme zoning laws and making our city better for everyone. The City Council’s vote is a win for current and future Alexandrians, our economy, the environment and the rights of property owners. I hope to see the rest of our region follow suit, and I hope to see Alexandria go further in allowing needed homes in our city.
