KUALA LUMPUR: A now-viral message circulating through social media claiming that teenagers are being kidnapped for their organs is untrue, says Bukit Aman.
Inspector-General of Police corporate communications secretariat Supt Skandaguru Anandan said the message claimed that the kidnapping syndicate used a Proton Wira and a white van.
"The message also listed down the price of vital organs such as the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys and eyes," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 7).
Supt Skandaguru said no police reports have been lodged linked to kidnappings and the sale of organs as claimed in the viral message.
"We discovered that the fake message has been around since 2016 and has since been rehashed on several social media platforms recently," he said.
He advised the public not to easily believe unverified news.
"Sharing or spreading such fake news can cause public distress," he added.
