PETALING JAYA: Two newlyweds who had to forgo their wedding celebration on Sunday (Dec 19) changed into T-shirts and pants instead and gave away food from their planned reception to flood victims in Klang.
Nur Asyiqin Md Hamdan, 25, said her marriage to Muhammad Nabil Mohd Azimi, 23, was solemnised on Friday (Dec 17) and they planned to hold a reception at Grand Gerbang Hall in Meru, Klang on Sunday.
But floods in the area forced them to cancel the event.
“We had been planning this since June. But the rain, which started on Friday, caused our house in Meru to be flooded,” Nur Asyiqin told mStar.
The couple, as well as others in the area, were evacuated to a temporary relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Meru.
“After our discussion with the family, food that was to be served to guests at our wedding reception was brought to the centre.
“My husband and I distributed the food ourselves, with the help of the Grand Gerbang Hall team,” she said.
Nur Asyiqin said the food helped ease the sadness of those who were affected by the floods.
“We were happy to be able to distribute the food to the people. Our intention, which was to share what we had, helped relieve our sadness too,” she added.
