Selangor still recording high cases and deaths

       PETALING JAYA: Selangor continued to record the highest number of Covid-19 cases and deaths.

       The state recorded 2,262 infections and 25 deaths, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

       Altogether, a total of 6,045 new cases were recorded yesterday, bringing the nation’s cumulative total to 778,652.

       Kuala Lumpur reported 616 new cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (531) Johor (500), Perak (384), Sarawak (365), Kedah (332), Melaka (290), Sabah (228), Penang (173), Kelantan (124), Pahang (95), Labuan (75), Terengganu (54) and Putrajaya (16).

       Perlis recorded no cases yesterday.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 5,271 recoveries, bringing the total to 705,486 so far.

       The number of active cases is now 67,669, and of this number, 917 are in intensive care units, with 443 requiring ventilator support.There were another 63 deaths reported, with a 13-year-old Malaysian girl with a history of epilepsy among those who died.

       Altogether, a total of 5,497 people have died of the disease, or 0.71% of all cases.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said that a total of 17 new clusters were reported, with 11 of them linked to workplaces, five linked to communities while one was linked to a high-risk group.

       There are 869 active clusters while 2,049 clusters are declared to have ended.
