PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia reported a record high of 23,564 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Aug 20), bringing the cumulative total to 1,513,024, according to the Health Ministry.
This surpasses the record high of 22,948 set just a day before on Thursday (Aug 19).
Selangor reports the highest number of cases at 6,974.
Sabah is second highest with 2,738 cases followed by Sarawak with 2,548. These are new state records.
Cases in other states are as follows: Kedah (1,932 cases), Kuala Lumpur (1,652), Penang (1,523), Johor (1,323), Kelantan (1,281), Perak (1,248), Melaka (610), Terengganu (521), Pahang (517), Perlis (64), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (one).
Currently, the country has 257,417 active Covid-19 cases.
This includes 1,062 cases in intensive care units (ICU) and 518 on ventilator support.
Another 21,448 patients were discharged from treatment, while 233 died due to the virus.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 13,713.
