KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s health facilities will not be able to cope with rising Covid-19 cases, state opposition leaders cautioned as the state hit a record high of 3,376 new cases yesterday.

       Parti Warisan Sabah’s Penampang MP Datuk Darell Leiking and DAP’s Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin appealed to the state and Federal governments to speed up the vaccination drive to control the virus spread.

       Leiking, who is Warisan deputy president, said the Federal Government must explain the delays in the promised supplies of vaccines to Sabah.

       Reports are emerging that due to low vaccine supplies, many vaccination centres across the state are not carrying out vaccination drives at full capacity.

       Over 30% of Sabah’s 2.84 million registered adult population have been fully vaccinated, with 52.4% having received their first dose.State officials had indicated that vaccine supplies were expected to arrive in the next few days.

       Chan said he foresaw health services in the state stretching beyond its limits as the vaccination rate was progressing too slowly.
